Review of Julep Maven Box: Glycolic Hand Scrub and Nail Polishes in Catherine and Gayle

My blog has moved to http://www.tenderallure.com/.  To keep up with my latest posts, outfits, giveaways, and more, check out my new blog!  I would love it if you could joined me at my new blog  :)

Hey everyone!

I recently received my first Julep Maven box (watch my video here or read my post here) and I wanted to share with you my thoughts on these products.  Julep Maven is a monthly membership program where you get a box of over $40 worth of nail polish and nail treatments every month for $19.99.  You can skip any month, and you also get 20% off and free shipping on all purchases made on Julep.com.

The Julep "Facial For Hands" Glycolic Hand Scrub retails for $32 on the site.  This scrub is a mixture of glycolic acid and apricot seeds with a slight citrus scent that doesn't produce any lather when you're rubbing it on your skin.  I really like how the small exfoliating beads aren't abrasive and gently work on my skin to remove all dead skin.  Right after using this scrub for the first time, I noticed that my skin was significantly softer and smoother.  Now that I have used this scrub several times, my hands feel as soft as a baby's skin.  Julep claims that this scrub also makes your hands look younger by getting rid of age spots and fine lines on your hands.  However, I don't think that my hands look particularly aged to begin with, so I'm not sure if this scrub actually does anything for me in terms of anti-aging.  Another great thing about this scrub is how it doesn't contain parabens, sulfates, or phthalates.  I like to use this scrub before putting on any hand lotion because I feel like it helps prepare my skin for moisturizing.

Since I had heard so many good things about Julep nail polish, I was really excited to try them out for myself.  All of the Julep nail polishes retail for $14 on the site, which is kind of pricey.  There are many benefits and disadvantages to these polishes in comparison to drugstore nail polishes.  I didn't find that the Julep nail polishes chip any less than my drugstore nail polishes.  For all of my nail polishes, I begin to see chipping around the third day.  However, I did find that these polishes have excellent color pigmentation.  2 coats of these polishes are enough for a really gorgeous opaque color.  On the other hand, some of my drugstore nail polishes require 3-5 coats to get enough color opacity.  Just like some of my other polishes, the formula for this nail polish is fairly liquidy, so you need to make sure that you wipe off all excess polish on your brush before using it.  If you don't wipe off the excess polish, it will run down your brush and make a mess on your nails.  Also, since this nail polish takes a fairly long time to dry, you have the chance to fix any mistakes you might have made while painting your nails.  Just make sure to find something to do that doesn't involve your hands while waiting for the polish to dry!

                         Without Flash                                       With Flash

The Julep Nail Vernis in Catherine is a really pretty and wearable red color!  Depending on how the light hits your nails, it can look like a really bright, classic red color or a slightly deeper red.  I think that this nail polish would look fantastic with red lips and I will definitely be using it all the time!

                         With Flash                                          Without Flash

The Julep Nail Vernis in Gayle is a deep plum purple color.  I personally don't prefer to wear dark colored polishes on my nails.  However, I did find that this color is pretty wearable because the color is brighter and more colorful than the really dark polishes.  If you're someone who likes to wear polishes that are so dark that they are black with a tiny hint of color, then this is not the color for you.

I haven't used the gold star glitters yet since I'm not sure as to how I want to use them.  However, I did use the Julep Hand Cream and the Julep Age Defying Hand Brightener samples.  Both of these products have a good consistency and seem to work well.  I would need to further try out these products in order to determine if they work as claimed.

You get a really great deal with the Julep Maven program and awesome products.  So, go ahead and try out Julep Maven now!  As a new Julep Maven, you can use a code to get an even better deal on your first box.  You can use the code COLOR2012 to get your first box for only 1 cent!  Or, you can also use the code NEW5 to get your first box for $5.

My First Julep Maven Box!

My blog has moved to http://www.tenderallure.com/.  To keep up with my latest posts, outfits, giveaways, and more, check out my new blog!  I would love it if you could joined me at my new blog  :)

Hey everyone!

I finally gave in and bought my first Julep Maven box!  My friends had told me about Julep nail polish before, and they would rave about how the nail polish was really good quality, had great color choices, and did not require too many coats to get a great opacity.  However, I wasn't sure if I really wanted to spend $14 on a bottle of nail polish since I normally buy drugstore nail polish for pretty cheap.  Then, I found out about the Julep Maven monthly membership program and I was intrigued.  It sounded like such a good deal!

Check out my video on Youtube!

So, basically Julep Maven is a subscription service where you get exclusive access to their limited edition nail colors before everyone else.  When you get your Julep Maven box, beauty editors of magazines such as Allure, Vogue, and so on are receiving similar products to review.  Each of the Sneak Peek boxes are only $19.99 for over $40 worth of products!  When you sign up, you first take a style quiz so they can find out what your personality and taste are like.  Then, based on your style quiz results, they match you with a box of goodies!  There are 4 different box categories:  American Beauty, Boho Glam, Bombshell, and Classic with a Twist.

Now, I realize that a membership service can sound a little scary because you may not be comfortable with putting aside $19.99 every month for Julep items.  So, the great thing about this company is that it is so easy to skip a month!  All you have to do is elect to skip that month in your account and you won't be charged for that month.  Or, if you would rather share your Julep Maven box with a friend one month, then you can even choose to have your box sent to your friend instead of you!

Finally, as a Julep Maven, you get to take 20% off all Julep.com purchases and free shipping on all purchases!  Another really great aspect about buying Julep nail polishes is that $1 is donated to organizations that support women for each polish that is bought.

If you are new to Julep Maven like me, then I have some great codes for you!  You can use NEWYEAR2012 to get your first box for only $0.01!  You can also use the code NEW5 to get your first Intro box for just $5.

There's so many different polishes offered by Julep!  So go and check them out!

Here are some pictures of the box I got today!  I had chosen a Bombshell box even though my style quiz matched me to an American Beauty box.  I just thought that the nail polish colors in the Bombshell box were better for me because I thought they were really pretty and I don't already have similar polish colors.

I love the red box!

Such a cute little description card about the products in my box!

All of the products come in this cute snowflake bag :)
